PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Thank you for your interest in the SLU ADHD Lab. Working with students is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. I believe in taking a developmental academic advising approach with students, meaning that I believe that students are continuously moving towards competence and independence and it is my job to provide guidance in this process. I believe in “meeting students where they are” by providing scaffolding, constructive feedback and by mentoring in all aspects of professional development. Students participate in all facets of research including study planning, recruitment of participants, data collection with parents and adolescents with a diagnosis of ADHD, and data entry. Consistent with the Scientist-Practitioner model, graduate students will have the opportunity to conduct evidence-based assessments with adolescents with ADHD and will accrue clinical hours for internship. Motivated undergraduate and graduate students will have opportunities to submit abstracts for conferences as well as opportunities for authorship on manuscripts.
For Prospective Graduate Students
The SLU Clinical Psychology program is not a mentorship program. However, students applying to the Clinical Psychology program should identify faculty members whose research interests are similar to their own and who will be able to serve as a thesis and dissertation chair and academic advisor. I am able to most effectively advise students whose interests overlap with my areas of expertise including simulated driving, child and adolescent psychopathology, and ADHD. I am open to student's interests even if they are not driving related as long as they fit one of my other areas of expertise.
